Archi-treasures, Thresholds Explore Meaning of Home at the Diplomat SRO
Last week, LBBA’s Jeff Bone and Victor Jimenez participated in the first Archi-treasures workshop for the Diplomat SRO project. The Diplomat, a formerly ill-maintained single-room occupancy building, is being reinvented as the Fred and Pamela Buffett Place; a 51-unit, sustainably-designed supportive housing facility for persons at risk of homelessness or struggling with mental illness. As part of the transformation, Archi-treasures is working with community members to create a permanent art installation for the lobby of the newly renovated building. During the workshop, Chicago artist Matthew Hoffman led about 40 Thresholds members in a brainstorming session to explore the meaning of home. The event was hosted by Thresholds at Penn House (157 W Division).
Archi-treasures will hold three more workshops this month to build on the theme. The Diplomat is currently under construction and will be complete by mid-December.
