Submissions now open for Tiny Homes Competition
AIA Chicago, partnering with Landon Bone Baker Architects, Pride Action Tank, and Windy City Times, is accepting design proposals for an urban community of tiny homes here in Chicago that addresses the large population of homeless youth.
Aged 18-24, many of these homeless youth are seeking stable communities as they work to improve their lives– often holding jobs, attending college, or working towards their GED. One predictor of adult homelessness is youth homelessness, and permanent housing for homeless young adults would provide a long-term investment in Chicago’s future.
Winners receive $5,000, plus another $5,000 to produce construction drawings. A prototype of the winning design will be constructed for the inaugural Tiny Homes Summit, April 18-19, 2016 at the University of Illinois- Chicago.
Submissions are open through January 30th to all interested parties.
Information and registration is available at tinyhomeschicago.org.
