Woodlawn Park featured in I Look Up Film Challenge
AIA recently launched their third annual I Look Up Film Challenge; a competition that encourages collaboration between architects and filmmakers to share architectural stories. This year’s theme, Blueprint for Better, focuses on projects that are helping bring positive social change to communities.
Thanks to filmmaker Mohammad Abassi, LBBA’s multi-phase Woodlawn Park project was submitted to the challenge. The 4-minute video captures residents sharing their experiences since living at the Burnham, a 65-unit residential building for seniors completed in 2015.
The building’s design was led by research and interviews with seniors and neighborhood stakeholders, which helped target Woodlawn’s specific needs and social concerns. In addition to providing a space that satisfies community needs, the Woodlawn Park developments intend to restore historic connections to the University of Chicago, the neighborhood of Woodlawn, Washington Park, and the CTA green line.
