2019 Year In Review
With 2020 well underway, here’s a look back at some of LBBA’s top posts from 2019!
1) La Ca Norte’s LEED Gold certified comprehensive community center in Humboldt Park was completed.
2) Tierra Linda’s Passive House 6-flat, developed by LUCHA, received Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) Certification as well as AIA Chicago’s Distinguished Building Special Recognition Award and Best Overall Project in the PHIUS Passive House Project Competition.

3) Emmett Street Project, a 100-unit affordable housing TOD developed by Bickerdike moved forward after gaining approval from the Logan Square community in a series of community meetings.
4) City Gardens, developed by Michaels Development and Brinshore, and The Carling SRO, developed by Michaels Development, tied for 1st Place in CNDA’s Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award for Architectural Excellence in Community Design.
5) Drake House, a modestly rehabbed Humboldt park home decorated with light wood finishes and brightly colored walls and accents that add playfulness to particular spaces and a warm feeling overall.

6) LBBA Labs completed its 10th year with BUILD Lab! In 2019’s program the interns prototyped designs for BUILD Chicago’s facility expansion based on research and interviews over the course of 6 weeks.
7) LBBA joined climate change activists Standing With Greta at Federal Plaza on September 20th.
8) LBBA partnered with the Chicago Architecture Biennial on 2 programs: co-hosting a Youth Studio mosaic workshop with our client BUILD. The 2nd event centered on discussing the redevelopment of the Cabrini Green neighborhood.
9) My Block My Hood My City youth visited our office to learn about architecture as a career path for the 3rd year in a row!
