1) La Ca Norte’s LEED Gold certified comprehensive community center in Humboldt Park was completed.

 

2) Tierra Linda’s Passive House 6-flat, developed by LUCHA, received Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) Certification as well as AIA Chicago’s Distinguished Building Special Recognition Award and Best Overall Project in the PHIUS Passive House Project Competition.

3) Emmett Street Project, a 100-unit affordable housing TOD developed by Bickerdike moved forward after gaining approval from the Logan Square community in a series of community meetings.

The Chicago Plan Commission voted unanimously on Thursday to approve the proposal to build the Emmett Street Project, a completely affordable 100 unit apartment complex! A huge congratulations to @bickerdikerc the developer of the project. This is an incredible milestone for affordable housing in Chicago. Below is an excerpt from @blockclubchi article which can be found by visiting the link in our bio. Chicago Department of Housing Commissioner Marisa Novara called the site of the development a “unicorn of a property,” because it’s “city-owned land located across the street from transit in a gentrifying community. 4) City Gardens, developed by Michaels Development and Brinshore, and The Carling SRO, developed by Michaels Development, tied for 1st Place in CNDA’s Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award for Architectural Excellence in Community Design.

 

5) Drake House, a modestly rehabbed Humboldt park home decorated with light wood finishes and brightly colored walls and accents that add playfulness to particular spaces and a warm feeling overall.

6) LBBA Labs completed its 10th year with BUILD Lab! In 2019’s program the interns prototyped designs for BUILD Chicago’s facility expansion based on research and interviews over the course of 6 weeks.

BUILDLab is having its final presentation at our office this Wednesday! This years’ program is partnering with the Chicago nonprofit @buildchicago. BUILD focuses on neighborhood health and wellness issues for youth—encompassing ideas of violence reduction and prolonging the lives of neighborhood youth. Our team of 6 high school interns and 2 college mentors has been researching and prototyping elements for the design of BUILD’s expanded facility in the neighborhood of Austin. The team’s final designs are informed by site visits, interviews with potential clients and members of the community, and meetings with stakeholders and partners. BUILDLab’s goal is to produce efficient, cost-effective, and well-designed components that will not only satisfy the programming needs but also create a place of belonging in the community of Austin. Thank you BUILD for collaborating with us on this years’ program! This is our 10th lab program! We would also like to give special thanks to @marwenarts, @chipubschools, and @chiarchitecture for 10 years of partnership. Over the lifespan of the program, LBBA Labs has reached 49 students from 30 high schools all across Chicago and partnered with over 60 organizations and individuals. If you’re interested in learning about all the hard work the BUILDLab interns have done this year please join us this Wednesday. Lunch will be provided. All are welcome. More details are below. 7) LBBA joined climate change activists Standing With Greta at Federal Plaza on September 20th.

 

8) LBBA partnered with the Chicago Architecture Biennial on 2 programs: co-hosting a Youth Studio mosaic workshop with our client BUILD. The 2nd event centered on discussing the redevelopment of the Cabrini Green neighborhood.

 

9) My Block My Hood My City youth visited our office to learn about architecture as a career path for the 3rd year in a row!
