Jeff and the firm learned early on that not all clients are the same; developers are well-versed in the design/build processes whereas non-profit community-based organizations are armed with a clear vision but do not always have an architecture vocabulary.

Trisha Girdwood, AIA
Trish’s design sensibilities are greatly influenced by her research in accessibility and universal design as well as construction detailing and sustainable building practices. As a designer and project manager, she has a wide range of professional and personal experiences that tackle the challenges of creating affordable housing. Trisha is also a member of AIA Chicago’s Department of Buildings Working Group and is also part of the Building Planning Technical Working Group to review the significant changes proposed to the Chicago Building Code.

With a strong commitment to community-based projects, Jack has focused on the field of multi-family housing, completing both affordable and market rate projects in Chicago and downstate Illinois. His extensive knowledge of green building practices and progressive city planning has helped the firm minimize its buildings’ environmental impact and improve the quality of life for residents.

She found inspiration in the idea that you can maintain your bottom line, but create positive change for communities along the way. Pursuant to her belief that it is an architect’s civic and social responsibility to pursue good design for all, Terran joined the AIA’s Center for Civic Leadership in 2016 and participates annually in AIA Chicago’s Prairie Grassroots. She currently leads the firm’s participation in the AIA 2030 Commitment.

Ashley Wendela, AIA, LEED AP
Ashley holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Michigan and Masters of Architecture from The University of Pennsylvania. Her past architecture experience ranges from small gallery renovations to complex, large-scale corporate projects. Together with her partner, she recently completed a gut renovation of a small industrial workshop into their single family home.
Ashley is interested in how architecture frames everyday life, from an urban to intimate scale. She believes architecture can make cities more humane, beautiful, and sustainable, and she pursues these ideals on her projects at LBBA.
She is currently working on La Casa Norte, a comprehensive community center and supportive housing project in Humboldt Park, and Kenmore Plaza, a high rise senior living renovation on Chicago's Far North Side.
Ashley has volunteered with Marwen, City Year, and Urban Habitat Chicago.

Kate D. Lengacher Cichon, AIA, LEED AP BD+C
Kate holds both a Bachelor of the Arts in Architecture with a minor in Spanish and a Master of Architecture from Ball State University. In her studies, she focused on the link between architecture and social opportunity in order to discover ways in which the built environment can have a positive impact both on people and the natural environment. Throughout her studies, she also has dabbled in photography seeking to capture interactions between the natural and built environments as well as the people who inhabit them. This has translated into her day-to-day projects with LBBA that engage with communities throughout Chicago and the Midwest to provide well designed spaces and places for everyone.
Kate is actively involved in the greater Chicago community by volunteering with AIA’s Architects in Schools Program, and previously with the United States Green Building Council and United Way. Kate’s volunteering experiences together with her love of photography continue to shape her design calling that seeks to leave a positive trail of experiences through the medium of thoughtful architecture.

Andrew Arkell, AIA
Andrew Arkell holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at the University of Arkansas. Immediately following graduation, he worked for a design-build firm and gained an understanding and familiarity with the material craft of architecture and building construction, all while helping to build a single-family home on Beaver Lake in Arkansas. His time swinging a hammer allows him to work through design and detail decisions both in the office and on-site with contractors.
Prior to moving to Chicago in early 2015, Andrew also worked for a local artist in Goshen, Arkansas, learning the nuances of living as a full-time artist, as well as the craft and construction of a watercolor painting. He continues to hone these skills developing paintings of his own and is always looking for new inspiration during his explorations of the city, adventures which are often focused on seeking out the best food in the city.
As a licensed architect, most of Andrew’s professional time in Chicago has been spent designing new single-family passive homes as well as energy efficient remodels/additions to historic homes in Oak Park. This previous work instilled in him a passion for building science, sustainability, and passive house principles. These are concepts he believes are relevant to the future of architectural practice and design. Coupled with LBBA’s focus on larger scale, community-driven projects, Andrew is excited to utilize the power of design to make a lasting, positive impact on the diverse communities of Chicago and beyond.

Kevin Taylor, AIA
Kevin Taylor earned his Bachelor of Architecture with distinction from California College of the Arts in San Francisco. After college, he worked in Berkeley, California on numerous residential and commercial projects where he developed a keen interest in the public’s interaction with the built environment. Since then his focus has been on improving space through socially conscious design. Prior to joining LBBA, he worked in Chicago on a variety of different programs including several large-scale public projects both in Chicago and abroad.
Kevin loves to challenge his frame of view through travel or getting lost in nature. He stays active in his community as a member of Chicago Plant Rescue and has volunteered with the AIA Chicago Architects in Schools program as well as the local Rebuilding together organization.

Alexis Stumpf
Alexis Stumpf earned a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture with High Honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she attended on a Chick Evans Scholarship. She believes in the power of architecture to lift the human spirit and strengthen communities and strives to advocate for people, places, and the planet in her practice. Her previous architecture experience focused on creating homes for traditionally underserved populations, particularly seniors and people with disabilities, and she is excited to continue serving in this capacity at Landon Bone Baker Architects.
Before joining LBBA she and her husband spent a year traveling and volunteering, doing everything from working at a children’s art studio in Mexico to installing water filters in rural Cambodia to van camping along the entire east coast of Australia. Closer to home, she has been deeply involved with AIA Chicago, where she led the Community Interface Committee and helped develop the Architects in Schools Program to introduce elementary students to architecture, serves as a design reviewer and mentor for architecture students at the University of Illinois, provides a foster home to shelter dogs with One Tail at a Time, and is a volunteer architect with Chicago Tiny House Inc.

Breah Page, AIA
Breah Page received her Bachelor of Architecture with distinction and minor in Interior Design from the University of Oklahoma but has spent her professional career living and working in Chicago. Her architectural experience ranges from classroom renovations and campus improvements for higher education clients to large scale civic and master-planning projects like the renovation and redevelopment of Wrigley Field. Additionally, she has a range of experience working on adaptive reuse and historic preservation projects. Breah finds purpose and perspective exploring architecture’s ability to reinforce culture and community and believes collaborative communication with project stakeholders is vital to give a voice to those most affected by development and design. She is excited to continue this meaningful work at LBBA working on affordable multi-family housing and cultural projects.
Breah actively serves as the President of the ACE Mentor Program Associate Board. She has mentored and filled the role as team leader for over 11 years, serving Chicago-area high school students interested in the AEC industry and promoting diversity within the design community. Outside of architectural design, Breah is working to craft a full baking portfolio of French pastries and enjoys producing environmental graphics and prints.

Matthew McGrane, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, CPHC
Matthew is a multi-faceted Senior Project Architect at LBBA. Matthew’s career thrives at the intersection of multiple modes of practice including user-centered design, research, and advocacy. In his current role, Matthew is pushing the boundaries of sustainable, equitable architectural practice on projects and initiatives aimed at preserving the environment and multiplying the impact of design for underserved populations.
Matthew is a recognized leader in sustainable design. Matthew is a LEED AP BD+C, a steering committee member for the Chicago Living Building Collaborative, and a certified PHIUS consultant (CPHC®). Matthew is also a contributing member of the International Living Future Institute's Affordable Housing Pilot program. The pilot program assembles a cohort of practitioners across the country to research ways to make certification through the Living Building Challenge an attainable goal for affordable housing projects. The group's findings are compiled and shared in the Living Building Challenge: Framework for Affordable Housing publication - a living document that openly shares best practices and lessons learned for the benefit of future affordable housing development teams. Finally, Matthew is a strong advocate for transparency in practice, helping develop and implement tools for reporting for the AIA 2030 commitment, and pushing for greater transparency in business practice through ILFI's JUST program.
Outside of the office, you can find Matthew taking in his children's little league games in Humboldt Park, working on his rowhouse in the North Lawndale neighborhood, or riding his bike around the city. Matthew was recently recognized as the AIA Chicago Dubin Family Young Architect of the year in 2018.

Jennifer Stanovich, AIA
Jennifer Stanovich received her Master’s in Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Bachelor’s in Art History and Visual Art from Fordham University. She has worked in Chicago for over a decade on a wide range of projects including University learning spaces and residences, office buildings, museums, and government buildings. Throughout all her work she has found purpose in how spaces affect the people who use them every day. She is passionate about finding simple solutions to complex problems and works to create holistic designs that respond to both big ideas and technical details. She is eager to utilize these skills at LBBA to create buildings that engage and support communities at all levels.
Jennifer remains interested in creating and participating in the arts through visiting all of Chicago's amazing museums as well as traveling to visit museums throughout the country. She finds satisfaction in finding obscure architectural gems in unlikely places. She is active in the community through volunteer work with Chicago Plant Rescue, the Anti-Cruelty Society, the Healthy Schools Campaign, and the Wing Mentorship Program.

Fred Grier, AIA, LEED AP
Fred joined LBBA in the summer of 2022, and has been the project manager on several current projects including mixed-income housing buildings at Parkside of Old Town and a 100% affordable housing project in Logan Square, Chicago.
A commitment to design excellence led Fred from his first post-graduate job at JAHN in 2010, to UHA London where he worked on commercial and high-rise residential projects around the world, to Krueck Sexton Partners, SCB, and finally LBBA. At LBBA, Fred continues a practice of providing creative, elegant solutions to the complex issues of affordable housing. Fred studied architecture at Taliesin, the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, and received his Masters of Architecture at IIT in Chicago. He and his family live in a Frank Lloyd Wright house in Oak Park.

Clayton Knapp, AIA,NCARB
Clayton holds a Professional Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in Urban Studies from the Illinois Institute of Technology. His previous Architecture experience includes highly custom single family residences, corporate interiors, national retail roll-outs, and public art installations. His design work has been exhibited in the Chicago Architecture Biennial.
Clayton is driven by the opportunity that Architecture presents us to inspire change in peoples’ lives. He believes architects have a unique ability to explore and develop how communities can work, live, and identify themselves. Outside of his pursuits in architecture, he is an experimental filmmaker with work exploring spatial and urban representation in cinema.

Jessica Lau
Born in Chicago, Jessica grew up in Hong Kong before moving back to Chicago to continue her education. She graduated with a Bachelors in Architecture from Illinois Institute of Technology in 2015 and worked on affordable housing and residential renovations both in school and after graduation. Jessica is interested in making things by hand, especially with wood. Her furniture designs have been on display at IIT’s annual open house and around the Chicago area.

A Mexican-American Chicago native, Julia works to improve quality of life in the city through architecture, specifically with her interest in affordable housing. Dedicated to community outreach and engagement, her passion for Mexican culture, art, and history influences her work at LBBA, the AIA Chicago Foundation Board, and as Co-Chair for the Architreasures Associate Board. Throughout her numerous roles, Julia strives everyday to make Architecture accessible to people of all demographics.

Tad Jameyfield
Tad Jameyfield holds a Masters degree in Architecture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Ball State University. During his time at Ball State University, he traveled abroad to Southeast Asia to study in India and Nepal where he developed a love for socially mindful design in urban settings. His passions for contemporary design, digital technology, and socially mindful projects attracted him back to the midwest to work at various studios in Chicago. During this time, he was involved in several notable larger scale university projects such as the Daley College MTEC addition as well as custom adaptive re-use residential and hospitality projects around the midwest. Tad’s work on these projects also developed his interest in facade technologies as they relate to building unique community identities, economic feasibility, and environmental performance through innovative design.
In addition to design work, Tad has volunteered for Chicago Run, where he was a running buddy for Chicago youth as well as organized an architectural run through various neighborhoods to learn about local architecture at high speeds. He is a frequent guest juror at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and his work has been on display at the Chicago Architecture Foundation, UWM, and the Chicago Architecture Biennial.

Ronel Constantin holds a master’s degree in architecture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from Ringling College of Art and design. He is an experienced architectural designer with a demonstrated history in institutional, civic, residential, and corporate interiors. Ronel is passionate about designs that challenge rigid boundaries and question the ability of architecture to foster diplomatic exchange between communities.

Mitchell is a Staff Designer at LBBA committed to quality, community, and environmental connection. He earned his Professional Bachelor of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology. During his time at IIT, he explored how projects could better connect individuals to existing landscapes and environments. Mitchell also enjoyed opportunities to get involved in design-build projects as well as mentoring new students through the Experiment in Architecture Program.
Professionally he has gained experience working in Chicago and the surrounding area on community-based projects. In his free time, he is a volunteer interpreter at the Frank Lloyd Wright Robie House. Mitchell brings these experiences to LBBA to create impactful projects that better serve the community and the environment.

Katie Taylor
Katie received her Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. After working for two years at a firm specializing in historic rehab, she moved to Chicago to attend the School of the Art Institute, where she received a Master of Architecture as well as a Certificate in Historic Preservation.
Katie's work in Cincinnati led her to focus her graduate research on issues of gentrification and displacement, and her practice quickly evolved to center on access, inclusion, and participation in design. This culminated in her thesis, titled This Is (Not) My Thesis, which explored participation as a strategy to disrupt systematic displacement.
Katie continues her practice as a staff designer at LBBA, along with independent research and involvement with the West-Side initiative Under The Grid.

Perry Howell
Perry is the Marketing + Outreach Lead at LBBA. He studied at DePaul University where he earned his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic design. Due to DePaul’s Vincentian mission, which focuses on community and diversity, Perry was inspired to use his skills in design for good. He is excited to help spread LBBA’s community-based values through marketing collateral such as the firm profile, resume, and website.
